About Us

The Scottish Venezuelan Society is a non-profit organisation that has the simple aim of fostering good relations and better understanding.

Since its inception, the Society has had the strong support of both the British Embassy in Caracas and the Venezuelan Embassy in London.

The existing links between Scotland and Venezuela provide an excellent platform for educational exchanges, joint projects, trade promotions and many other forms of contact.

Venezuela's status as one of the world's oldest and largest oil producers has resulted in many Scottish companies sharing the expertise that has been developed in the North Sea. Equally, PDVSA - the Venezuelan state oil company - has strong links with Scottish institutions, particularly Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

The drinks industry is another in which very strong links already exist. Venezuela is the world's fifth biggest market for Scotch whisky. Even less well-known is the fact that the biggest exporter of whisky to Venezuela, Diageo, also own two of the leading brands of Venezuelan rum as well as running extensive social and training programmes.

By supporting the links that have been developed between Il Sistema in Venezuela and Scottish arts bodies, it is our hope that the Scottish Venezuelan Society can assist the Big Noise project in Stirling and use this as a model for community development through sport and other areas of the arts.

The Scottish Venezuelan Society is an open forum for ideas. We welcome all input and it is our sincere aim that, even in a small way, we can benefit social development and improved understanding in both Scotland and Venezuela.
